Welcome to BORACAY ISLAND, Philippines Best! |

About the Island:
So you finally decided to come to Boracay Island and would like to be prepared re potential problems that you might encounter here.
Let's begin with Flight Bookings. We all know that our National Flag Carrier is Philippine Airlines (PAL), and foreign tourists can only book their domestic flights from abroad with PAL (no other domestic carriers). PAL flies them to Kalibo Airport, which is at least 1 and 1/2 hours by van or bus from Caticlan Jetty Port. A better option is to fly with Asian Spirit, since by flying directly to Caticlan Airport you save more of your precious vacation time.
Second the Porters at all the airports (whether Kalibo or Caticlan) and Caticlan Jetty Port itself. Don't be shocked if they literally rip your bags out of your hands, it's just their way of doing their job. Always have ten peso bills ready to pay them with (equivalent to about 25 US cents) for each piece, because of course they never have change. Same thing for the tricycle from Caticlan Airport to the Jetty Port, the going rate is 30 Pesos if you're alone to 50 Pesos for the whole tricycle.
Third, the quality of the Food (my favorite) on Boracay varies a lot. Boracay has many different kinds of cuisine from American thru European to Asian. But be aware that the menu in some places sounds and reads better than it tastes. Ask around and see if the people in the restaurants look happy.
Fourth, on Boracay itself the Tricycles are pretty annoying and irritating. That is why we recommend the Beachfront, no high-pitched motor sounds that worms thru your ear directly to your brain. They often overcharge tourists as well, the going rate is PHP 5.00/pax on the flat stretches during the day and Php 10.00/pax in the evenings.
